Gender-based violence is when violent acts are committed against women and LGBTI people on the basis of their orientation, gender identity, or sex characteristics. Gender based violence happens to women and girls in disproportionate numbers.

This is any improper and unwelcome conduct that might reasonably be expected or be perceived to cause offence or humiliation to another person. Harassment may take the form of words, gestures or actions which tend to annoy, alarm, abuse, demean, intimidate, humiliate or embarrass another or which create an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment.

Discrimination in the workplace is based on certain prejudices and occurs when an employee is treated unfavourably because of gender, race, religion, pregnancy and maternity or disability.
